Attacking the Root Cause of Dry Eye

Dry eye, a gritty, itchy feeling which may cause blurry vision and light sensitivity, affects 5-6% of the world population and up to 34% of the elderly. Severe dry eye can lead to eye damage and loss of vision.
Current treatments to address dry eye symptoms include lubricating artificial tear drops and ointments, prescription eye drops, nasal spray, and punctal plugs (blocking the “drainpipe” to keep tears from flowing out of your eyes and to your nose).

Certain treatments also use heat and pressure to unclog blocked oil glands needed to keep your eyes moist and prevent tears from evaporating.

These treatments only provide short-term relief and don’t always work. In fact, none of these interventions treat the root cause of dry eye.
